Rock City
19 year-old Callum Burrows, best known by his stage name Saint Raymond, gets this week’s live music off to a flying start to a homecoming crowd on Wednesday at Rock City with a sold out performance of foot-stomping, heart-racing indie hits! With his infectiously youthful tones and irritatingly catchy guitar riffs, it’s hard not to love this guy and you’ll be surprised to know that a couple of his tunes are already buried deep inside your subconscious; “how?”, I hear you ask? ‘Wildheart’, an upbeat, Summer smash features on the latest Fifa 15 soundtrack, so while you’ve been choosing between your Ligue 1’s and Bundesliga’s, Saint Raymond has been creeping into your oblivious music soul and throwing shapes left, right and centre. Off the back of supporting Ed Sheeran on his sold out UK arena tour, performances at Reading & Leeds and a European tour, he’s won over the hearts of thousands and if you haven’t been converted yet … you’re next. Check out his latest hit ‘Fall At Your Feet’ below.
Local neighbour’s Skies In Motion, Derby’s very own energetic 5-piece metal rockers, are set to cripple Rock City’s basement on Thursday. Having support Killswitch Engage back in 2013, it’s not hard to guess what to expect from these guys, but for those of you still wondering, I shall enlighten you. Expect throat-cutting blood-curdling deep vocals, head-banging guitar shredding and chest-pounding drums. Are you sold now? You can download and listen to their single ‘The Light’ for free from their bandcamp here:
Rock titans Monster Magnet are set to tear up the Rock City stage on Friday with a set spanning over 25 year’s of solid, head-banging hits. Welcoming new bassist Chris Kosnik to the killer lineup, Monster Magnet are ready to show Nottingham how New Jersey like to rock; and how New Jersey certainly roll! Feast your eardrums on their 1998 hit ‘Space Lord’.
Rescue Rooms
Irish folk pop duo Hudson Taylor, brothers Alfie and Harry from Dublin, are set to play to a sold out crowd at Rescue Rooms on Monday. If you were one of the lucky ones to bag a ticket, expect to hear tracks from their hotly-anticipated debut album, ‘Singing for Strangers’, where you will experience first hand the raw emotion of years busking on the streets of the Irish capital poured out into one live show-stopping performance. Take one of the leading tracks ‘Chasing Rubies’, this is a fine example of what the two young artists have to offer: melodic drums, captivating guitar patterns and supple vocal tones that send you to a rosy, buoyant paradise.
Indie legends The Cribs return to Nottingham to play a very special set at Rescue Rooms on Wednesday. Twins Gary & Ryan and younger sibling Ross form the trio from Yorkshire, popular amongst teens and adults alike for their distinct and jubilant music, pour their heart and soul into every song they write. What sets The Cribs aside from other bands competing for a similar audience is the evident connection between each band member; when you hear their songs or witness them live, there’s no denying that these guys were born to take over the world together – and they just might have done it! You can grab their new album ‘For All My Sisters’ on 23rd March!
“Things are going to get loud when Jettblack bring their unique brand of hard rock to Nottingham’s hallowed Rescue Rooms on Thursday. The up and coming metal titans are well known for their inescapably catchy riffs and soaring vocals, making this a gig no rocker can afford to miss. Originally beginning as Skirtbox in 2000, the boys have a lot of practice under their belts and it shows in their performances. Jettblack are as tight live as any band out there today. They can pull off any of their huge rock ballads and make sure everyone in the room is having fun at the same time.” Liam Fleming, The Mic contributor. Check out his preview for the gig here.
Also performing throughout the week are: Crown The Empire – Tuesday 36 Crazyfists – Friday Jack Savoretti – Saturday Rae Morris – Sunday
The Bodega
The Sundowners, a 5-piece from Wirral hell-bent on spilling every ounce of passion they have for music onto the stage, simply will not stop touring. Supporting the likes of Cats Eyes & Kasabian, as well as packing out the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury, seem to tick every box for the road to success; a road which stops off at our very own Bodega on St.Valentine’s Day. Vocalists and long term friends Niamh and Fiona telepathic understanding on stage combined with their psychedelic and mysterious sounds could send even the most focussed man into a state of trance, transcendence and ecstasy; why not take your loved one with you this Valentine’s Day?
“Sundowners are undoubtedly an exciting prospect, with a very defined sense of who they are” – NME
