Upcoming artist Gavin James wows at Rescue Rooms

Watching Gavin James at the Rescue Rooms left me with one inescapable thought. This man is simply not as appreciated as he should be. The Rescue Rooms is a relatively small venue compared to other stops on the tour such as Shepherds Bush Empire. With this in mind, and the inability of such a talented vocalist and songwriter as Gavin James to sell out such an intimate venue left me speechless.

After a perfectly balanced opening set from his support act and lifelong friend Craig Gallagher, Gavin James appeared on stage (after having asked me personally where the stage was) to perform a rousing set of acoustic numbers, featuring some of his biggest hits – Nervous and Bitter Pill.

It is becoming a rarity in modern music for artists to be able to perform in the manner James does, with a completely stripped back, yet flawless vocal. He has a charming wit on stage and left the audience in the palm of his hand. From the glimpse of new music the audience were shown in “Hearts on Fire” – It cannot be long before Gavin James is a major household name and playing in venues far larger than the ones on this tour.
