The band who have seemingly been around forever are back; and back in a big way. Famed for their outstanding live performances and simple-but- effective brand of indie rock music, the Pigeon Detectives are hitting the road in anticipation of an upcoming fifth record, scheduled for release in early 2017.
Forever condemned to being played at any club night described as ‘indie’ or ‘alternative’, the Leeds rockers rose to prominence originally with debut album ‘Wait For Me’, featuring classic singles such as ‘I Found Out’, ‘I’m Not Sorry’ and the legendary ‘Take Her Back’. Rising to fame at a time when Yorkshire bands dominated the music scene, they held a rightful place amongst the likes of Milburn, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Reverend and the Makers and the Cribs, garnering a cult following of loyal fans which still exists to this day, and was certainly in full voice when making their 2016 debut appearance on stage when playing at the Godiva Festival in Coventry in July.
Despite an absence of chart success since the aforementioned critically acclaimed debut, their appeal remains as they consistently pull out top festival performances, sold out tours and crowds that sing back every word. Their upcoming tour promises to be their most intimate for some time, with smaller, less well- known venues set to play host such as the Borderline in London and Broadcast in Glasgow.
Unfortunately, Nottingham is not on the tour calendar on this occasion, but there are dates at Birmingham and Leeds for those of our readers who like to travel – and the opportunity to see this rowdy Yorkshire bunch at small venues such as these may not come around too often. If that’s not possible – keep your eyes peeled over the near future, with new single ‘Lose Control’, a new record and lengthy tour (with Nottingham potentially to be included) in promotion of said new record in the offing over the coming months.
