Preview: The Killers @ Motorpoint Arena

Seeing The Killers live always requires a battle for tickets, and their 2017 tour was no exception. After eventually getting through on the Motorpoint Arena website, and paying a rather high price, I secured tickets to see the band for the second time.

A huge UK and Ireland tour follows the release of the Las Vegas band’s fifth album, Wonderful Wonderful and a sensational surprise set at Glastonbury in the summer. The support act for the Nottingham show will be Juanita Stein, following the release of her debut solo album, America. Stein is best known as the lead singer of Australian rock band, Howling Bells.

Though some may argue that Wonderful, Wonderful is perhaps The Killers’ weakest album, it does boast some pretty powerful tracks – Run For Cover, Tyson vs Douglas and Some Kind Of Love being a few. The lead single from the album, The Man, is a catchy anthem that most will recognise, even if they haven’t listened to the new album – it’s being played everywhere. Their new offering has steadily grown on me and does show that they have evolved as a band since the release of the chart-topping Battle Born in 2012.

Brandon Flowers’ charisma as a frontman will ensure an enchanting, exciting set from start to finish, as the band flit from album to album. I would say their most ageless album is Sam’s Town, and hope to hear songs such as When You Were Young, For Reasons Unknown and Read My Mind grace the arena stage on the night.

There’s no denying that the band still have a lot to give. Their new music is promising and demonstrates that they have not lost the energy they are famous for after years of touring. The gig promises to be a completely wonderful experience for all (those that were lucky enough to get tickets, that is).

The Killers play Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena on Thursday 23 November.
