Dot 2 Dot is back for 2024, promising another year of unforgettable performances and vibrant cultural experiences in both Nottingham and Bristol. This multi-city festival has become a staple in the UK's music scene, renowned for its line-up of emerging artists and the unique charm of taking place across Nottingham’s cultural hubs. Here’s a glimpse into what attendees can expect from this year’s event:
Dot 2 Dot has always been celebrated for its diverse array of musical talent, and 2024 is no exception. This year's line-up features an impressive mix of genres, ensuring there’s something for everyone across the city. This year's duel headliners include Mercury Prize-nominated duo Jockstrap (Rock City, 20:45), who mutate folk ballads with electro-pop to form truly a unique, critically acclaimed sound. Alongside them, Wunderhorse (The Level, 21:45) have exploded onto the indie / alternative Rock scene in anticipation of their Sophomore album; expect catchy grunge choruses, personal lyricism and an expert vocal performance from frontman Jacob Slater. Another big name to catch is The Magic Gang (Rock City, 19:30), who are bringing their power-pop flourishes to Nottingham one last time as part of their farewell campaign. Antony Szmierek (Rock City, 17:30) rounds out our
headliners, a spoken word, hip-hop artist, channelling Arlo Parks with a blend of introspective poetry and indie-pop beats.
Dot 2 Dot is best known for championing emerging artists, having provided a platform for numerous now-huge artists to shine early in their careers. Some artists on our radar to look out for include JGrrey (The Level, 19:15), who fuses lo-fi R&B with British soul, female alt- rocker Aziya (The Bodega, 18:00) and indie up-and-comers Pentire (Rescue Rooms, 17:00). The future of indie rock continues to thrive at Dot 2 Dot, with bands like mary in the junkyard (Rescue Rooms, 19:00), Man/Woman/Chainsaw (BETA, 16:00), Soft Lunch (Rescue Rooms, 20:00) and Gurriers (Black Cherry Lounge, 20:30) filling the likes of Rescue Rooms and Bodega with a new wave of bands to obsess over.
An amazing opportunity for local acts, Dot 2 Dot showcases a huge number of Nottinghamshire-based artists and bands. Jazz and Post-punk quintet Otala (BETA, 14:00) have built a cult fanbase in Nottingham that continues to grow through their poetic lyricism and orchestral sound. Self-proclaimed “alt-dad band” Airport Dad (31K, 17:00) have also begun their local rise through their shoegaze and grunge fuelled singles, drenched in ‘John Hughes-esque’ melancholy. Singer-songwriter Katie Keddie (Carousel, 16:00) produces consistently personable lyrics, gently humming over warm acoustic guitar that instantly evokes the commercial folk resurgence of the 2020s. And performing right at the tail end of the festival, pop-punk trio Girlband (The Bodega, 01:00) continue to pave a trail for female-fronted rock in Nottingham, inspired by the seminal three-pieces in music history.
Dot 2 Dot 2024 promises to be another exciting year for the festival, with its diverse line-up,
multi-city charm, and commitment to supporting emerging talent. Whether you're there to catch the headliners before they break the mainstream, or to discover the next big thing, Dot 2 Dot promises to be the event in Nottingham this summer. Don't miss out on this celebration of music, culture, and community, in both Nottingham and Bristol!
