Eez-eh! eez-eh! The crowd bellowed at any opportune moment throughout the Kasabian gig at the Capital FM Arena last week. For the entire duration of the set, the band succeeded in what few acts can achieve: creating an environment of escapism where the crowd could feed off the bravado lyrics and tongue-in-cheek attitude of the Les-tah four piece.
The band introduced themselves with Bumblebee stirring up a frenzy, which was aided by the excitement over Sergio’s salad cream t-shirt and fox tail. The new album 48:13 was on full display with Eez-eh and Treat being passable as fan favourites. They casually dipped into the back catalogue of old faithful’s, much to the crowds delight as Fire, Shoot the Runner and Underdog all made worthwhile appearances.
Kasabian were a band made for arenas, but what made their performance so genuine was the humility of the two front men Sergio Pizzorno and Tom Meighan and their chilled, lovable address to the Nottingham crowd. There was a hat-tip to the East Midlands colloquialism ‘alright me ducks’ which was met with rapturous applause from the locals.
Don’t be fooled, you may think Kasabian is your good old fashioned rock band, but there was a mixed bag of treats throughout their set. Slowing the pace with Thick As Thieves and a haunting rendition of Goodbye Kiss before a brief interval broken by a cover of Cameo’s Word Up as a prelude to Rewired – a stroke of genius.
Vlad the Impaler’s GET LOOSE GET LOOSE inspired the crowd right before the guys signed off with a beautiful mix of Fat Boy Slim’s Praise You and LSF. Fans poured out of the venue spilling into the streets where there was a desperate cling to the last few lines of the song echoed throughout the city. Kasabian, you have served us well.
