Johnny Lloyd is a singer-/songwriter from Camden Town, London. He made himself a name as frontman of his former indie-rock band Tribes. Sadly, they split up in November 2013 after just four years together and two released albums. Now Lloyd is doing his own thing – he decided to go solo and he does it well! His songs are exciting, rousing and so catchy, that I found myself humming them at every (even the most inappropriate) occasion. Johnny Lloyds solo stuff still contains some rockier elements as we know them from typical Tribes songs. But directly compared to the rock band’s music, his own songs have a softer, more solemn and melancholic touch especially recognizable in his song writing.
Until now he has released one EP called Dreamland with four songs on it (“Dreamland”, “Pilgrims”, “Happy Humans” and “Hello Death”). The song “Hello Death”, a song about saying goodbye and starting again, reflecting Lloyds personal situation, was produced together with well-known musician Jamie T, while other songs like “Happy humans” and “Pilgrims” resulted out of a collaboration with Hugo White of The Maccabees. In an interview, Lloyd described “Pilgrims” as an old-school, personal love song, while “Happy Humans” is more like an observation. An album is hopefully coming soon as well.
Next weekend on the 26th of November The Fratellis start their upcoming tour by playing Rock City, which has already been sold out at the beginning of October. To celebrate their debut album Costello Music, which was released already ten (!!!) years ago, they decided to play the whole album in full length for the first time. By then Johnny Lloyd will just have finished touring with Tom Odell. So, we kind of know what we can expect to hear from The Fratellis on Saturday, but it will be quite exciting to see and hear Johnny Lloyd’s performance … maybe (and hopefully) there will be some new songs, we haven’t even heard about yet.
