The UK’s official best medium sized festival returns this year with a line-up that’s as packed as ever. Headline sets come from Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, You Me At Six and Deaf Havana in a who’s who of British rock music, whilst on the heavier side of things While She Sleeps headline the Cave stage on Thursday night having sold out the Roundhouse with one of the most unique sets of all time with a live choir, and will be performing hits from their new album ‘So What?’
The legendary Every Time I Die are also topping the Cave stage, performing their iconic album ‘Hot Damn’ in full for the first, and potentially only ever, time. Cancer Bats are headlining the Cave as well, while Frank Turner is pulling double duty, headlining the whole festival on Thursday and then headlining the Axiom stage with his hardcore band Möngöl Hörde on the Friday night as part of the Xtra Mile Recordings takeover. This will inevitably be one of the highlights of the entire weekend, especially considering how rarely they perform.
Elsewhere on the bill, former My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero is playing with his new band The Future Violents, whilst hardcore poster boys Turnstile return for the second year in a row for a main stage set which is sure to be blistering if their performance on the Cave last year was anything to go by. Comeback Kid are also bringing the hardcore vibe, whilst Angel Du$t are sure to be a band not to miss – members of Turnstile and Trapped Under Ice performing a fusion of hardcore and uplifting pop music.
Jamie Lenman is bringing his Lenmania festival to the Axiom Stage on the Thursday, which features an opening set and a headline set from the man himself, as well as two of the brightest stars in underground British heavy music today; Loathe and Conjurer. Two of the most recent additions to the bill are also certainly worth checking out: American mysterious punks The Armed, and Raketkanon – a band who perform in their own made up language and are returning to the UK for the first time in several years!
As usual there will be acoustic Forest sets throughout the weekend, which have now become legendary for featuring some of the headliners in stripped back shows as never seen before – Frank Carter caused an acoustic moshpit in 2017, while Rou Reynolds performed Enter Shikari songs last year.
Along with the stripped back atmosphere of the Cave, 2000 Trees has also introduced a brand new Chillout zone for this year’s festival if you need a break from the music. It’s full of spoken word performances, podcast recordings and comedians. The new area also has early morning yoga and fairground rides, as well as having an area specifically for children; this year, the festival is obviously focusing on making sure the music is not the only thing going on all weekend.
It is clear that the team at 2000 Trees aren’t resting on their laurels as the UK’s best medium sized festival and are doing everything possible to improve it even further to make 2019 the best yet, especially with further improvements to last year’s cashless system, which makes it the most convenient and safe festival in the UK.
