With two Nottingham alumni as members of the band, playing Rock City was a sort of homecoming for Don Broco. With the band also playing a not so secret show at a house party to less than a 100 people earlier this month, the anticipation could not be higher for this gig and it certainly lived up to expectations.
However, the fans had to wait a little longer through the opener Coasts, an indie electro band that’s definitely worth listening to if you ever get a chance. Whilst not the most appropriate opener for Don Broco they were still great live and did their best to excite a crowd that wasn’t there for their style of music which did show in their reaction to Coasts.
For those that may be unfamiliar with Don Broco they are a four-piece alternative rock outfit that has varied throughout their career from their earlier music such as their single Priorities which is more rock compared to their latest album Automatic which is much more dance influenced but still maintains the band’s identity as a rock band. This means that the band has always releasing something new and different from what it has released before making it much more interesting how they can combine all these different songs in one set.
This gig did not disappoint the chants for Don Broco started ringing out as soon as Coasts had departed the stage. As soon as the band took to the stage anyone who was there knew that this crowd was going to go crazy no matter what happened. After a questionable first opening song instead of a more popular the one, the band then played their biggest track from their new album You Wanna Know and from then on it was nothing but great music and a crowd that could ask nothing more, except maybe for them to keep playing long after the encore. An amazing homecoming of sorts for the band.
