With over 600,000 listeners a month on Spotify and over 7 million listens on his first single, Declan
McKenna is taking the music scene by storm. His sights are now set on travelling the country with
Blossoms on their sold out headline tour. McKenna first broke into the music scene in 2015 when he
managed to win the Glastonbury upcoming talent competition. Winning this opened doors for his
career allowing him his first festival performance at Glastonbury on the William Green stage as a
prize. He has been adding to his list of festivals over the past two years performing at Somersault
and Electric Festival to name a few.
His socially and politically influenced songs have clearly made a stamp for him with over 40 record
labels wanting to snap up ‘one of the most sought after acts of the decade’. He finally signed to
Columbia records who also look after megastars such as Beyonce and Adele, clearly displaying the
level of talent this young lad from Hertfordshire has. His first single ‘Brazil‘, a song condemning the
poverty and exploitation brought about in Brazil by the 2014 football World Cup, became number one in the
UK alt charts and also topped charts in America.
His songs have been described as ‘extraordinarily mature’ and having ‘early, ragged promise’ making
his upcoming supporting role exciting. Listening to his songs you hear the ragged boyish indie charm,
so let’s see how this is reflected in his live performances.
