Crossfaith stormed through Rock City on Tuesday 16th October in support of their new album ‘Ex Machina’, while the crowd was nowhere near sold out they still performed with their usual frantic energy, with non-stop mosh pits from the minute album opener “Deus Ex Machina” dropped into “Catastrophe”, egged on by frontman Ken as they ploughed through hits both old and new – with older songs such as “Monolith” and “Jagerbomb” receiving their usual raucous reactions. However, as with every Crossfaith show, it was their cover of The Prodigy’s “Omen” which received the biggest reaction, with the pit growing to the size of the entire floor, and crowd surfers galore – certainly putting security to the test. This is an act who always put on an excellent live show, with the whole band exuding energy and confidence and a lightshow fit for bigger venues that they could easily perform on and still maintain their lively atmosphere.
Support came from melodic hardcore band Blood Youth, who are easily one of the best small bands in the world today and deserve to be headlining venues such as Rock City, and their status continues to grow, especially after the success of recent single “Starve” from their as yet unannounced second album. Their live show as always is consistently excellent and they are finally getting crowd reactions that they deserve, with the first pits of the night opening to the introductory riff of “Failure” as they walked on stage, and continued until the closing note of “24/7”.
Both Crossfaith and Blood Youth proved that you don’t need a sold-out venue to put on an excellent show – despite playing to a much smaller crowd than their music deserved they continue to excel in a live environment and will surely continue to grow – hopefully to the level where they sell out venues like Rock City in the future.
