iSessions is set to kick off its local heats in Nottingham next week. Included in the lineup is Mic member Sam Bigwood and his band Yowsah. Anyone free next Tuesday 17th, go and check out all the talent and support Yowsah in their fight for a coveted spot in the live final.
iSessions is a battle of the bands event, associated with the Independent newspaper, organised by iStudents across the country. There are three stages of the competition. Firstly, local heats on university campuses. Secondly, a public vote online, and finally the live final with high profile judges, which was hosted at Manchester’s Gorilla last year.
This year the Nottingham event will be held in the Gypsy Lounge of Filthy’s Nottingham. A great opportunity to watch some of the best unsigned talent on campus, make sure to come down and support your local scene as well as the charity – Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Speaking with Sam ahead of the gig, he said “We’re called Yowsah, a three piece indie/ punk band, we met through the band society at uni, we’re all first year students studying different things. We’re really excited for the gig, not because of the competiton but because it’ll be our first gig, we’re just looking forward to the chance of playing songs we’ve written and hoping to see as many people there as possible to have a great night! It’s only £2 entry, with that going to charity Great Ormand Street Hospital. The iSessions competition itself looks well organised, and seems a good way for band’s to get gigging. I also think their rule of having the set contain a certain amount of original songs is great as it inspires bands to write their own songs rather than just cover songs.”
Tickets: Door price – £3 Guestlist – £2
Lineup: Foule Black Under the Eyes Yowsah The Floodlights Captain Inflection and the Argonauts
Details for voting as well as footage of the bands on the night will be uploaded to the Independent Student website shortly after the gig.
