C Duncan Hits The Bodega This Wednesday

C Duncan released his sparkling debut, ‘Architect’, last summer to widespread critical acclaim, culminating in a nomination for the Mercury Prize Album of the Year. Aptly described by critics as “magical”, his haunting folk beautifully melds church-like choral sections with baroque guitar lines and yearning lyrics.

His music is composed of layers, each song is written like an orchestral piece built of numerous sounds that intertwine and weave around each other, before reaching a swell that lifts the listener to super-terrestrial heights in a sensory blitz.

Originally hailing from Glasgow, he is the son of two classical musicians, and is also classically trained himself. This is instantly recognisable in his music – it is complex, sophisticated and draws from multiple genres and eras of music. Architect is an album that has been crafted with vision, knowledge and a reverence for music, making it cohesive, progressive and surprising.

C Duncan is one of the most interesting and exciting songwriters in the UK at the moment. His live show has been described by The Guardian as “dizzyingly close to perfection”, and when he and his band take over The Bodega this Wednesday 2nd March, it will surely be a lush, immersive and intimate show that is not to be missed.
